Body Rolling

Yamuna Body Rolling is a technique using 6-10 inch diameter balls to tone, strengthen and realign your body. Body Rolling is a self help tool. You can use it to gain greater body awareness, release tight muscles, improve bone quality, free restrictions around joints, and make your body longer, leaner and stronger. You can use it as a warm up or cool down after exercise, and to align your body properly before weight lifting or strenuous movement. It can provide relief from sore, achy, tired muscles. The founder, Yamuna Zake, says body rolling is like aspirin, it should be in everyones cabinet for when you need it.

The body rolling routines follow specific sequences designed to work with the natural order of your body. You place the ball at the point where muscle attaches to bone, called its origin, and allow your body weight to sink onto it. As you sink, the muscle tendon complex begins to elongate, becoming more elastic and triggering a release through the entire muscle. You roll a little farther into muscle and sink, deepening the release. You roll and sink towards the muscle insertion, the point where it attaches to the bone that it moves. The muscle lengthens and softens and when you stand and move afterward you can literally feel the difference. Restricted movement in joints, such as the hip or shoulder, is the result of shortening of groups of muscles that interface with the joint. Body rolling addresses all the major muscle groups, helping to free restriction in joints, increase blood flow and promote healing.
